Wale Okediran releases movie trailer ahead of November 28


WALE OKEDIRAN RELEASES MOVIE TRAILER AHEAD OF NOVEMBER 28



Dr. Wale Okediran, a former president of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), has unveiled the official trailer for the new live-action adaptation of his award winning book, the Tenant of the house. The book, Tenants of the house is a fictional representation of the happenings in the House of Representatives, the second highest legislative council in Nigeria. The events chronicled took place between the years 2004 and 2007. These include the aborted impeachment move of the then Speaker of the House and subsequent attempts at a bogus constitutional amendment in order to extend the tenure of the executive arm of government.

Okediran develops several character portraits through which he establishes the strengths and weaknesses found in the legislative and executive arms of government in Nigeria.

The premiere of the movie will take place at the Sheraton Hotel, Abuja on November 28. The film was produced by Okediran’s consultancy outfit, Promero Counsults and featured prominent movie stars such as Kunle Afolayan as Director as well as several notable Nollywood and Kanny wood actors and actresses. “

Important personalities expected at the movie premiere include: Professor Ibrahim Gambari (CHAIRMAN); Professor Wole Soyinka; Profesor Chidi Odinkalu; Dr Kayode Fayemi, Kaduna State governor, Nasir El Rufai; Dr Andrew Kwasari (National Livestock  Transformation Plan) Innocent Chukuma (Ford Foundation), Uche Nwuka (Bank Of Industry) Rasheedat Okoduwa (ICPC), Kemi Okenyodo (Nigeria Policing Program), Hidayat Hassan (CDD) and the Representative of the US Embassy.

OKEDIRAN PICKS NOVEMBER 28 FOR PREMIERE OF MOVIE, TENANTS OF THE HOUSE

 
The movie industry in the next few weeks will witness the birth of a new movie that has become the talk of the town. Apart from emerging as one movie that many people are anticipating its release, It was gathered that it would also put the industry on the map as brains behind the movie revealed to R in a brief chat.

Entitled Tenants of the House, the movie, which parades some of notable names in the movie industry was produced by a former member of House of Representatives, Dr Wale Okediran, a fictional adaptation of his stay in the lower chamber of the National Assembly as he described as himself as ‘Special Guest of Honour’.

In a statement released by Okediran and made available to R, the premiere of the movie directed by award-winning movie maker and director, Kunle Afolayan would be premiered at the Sheraton Hotel, Abuja on November 28.

According to Okediran, an author, politician and now a movie maker, the movie dwells on the need for a peaceful resolution of the pervasive herders/farmers crisis in the country just as it would also provide amicable solution to the crisis.

 “It is believed that the theme of the Film which is on the need for a peaceful resolution of the pervasive Herders/Farmers crisis in the country will go a long way in finding an amicable solution to the crisis which is widespread in the country and in some African countries.

“The Film was produced by my organisation; Premero Consults and parades an array of talents such as Kunle Afolayan as Director as well as several notable Nollywood and Kanny wood actors and actresses. “

According to Okediran, guests expected at the premiere include, political and community leaders, government officials, members of the private sector and diplomatic corps, NGOs as well as those of development partners.

The premiere according to him would also throw up a panel discussion as “it is hoped that the discussion will assist in proposing a road map for solving the perennial herders/farmers problem in some parts of Africa using the film as a tool for conflict resolution,” he said.

Three African Writers round up the Ebedi 2019 Residency Program


THREE AFRICAN WRITERS ROUND UP THE EBEDI 2019 RESIDENCY PROGRAM


Three writers, one from Rwanda and two from Nigeria have arrived Iseyin, Oyo State, Nigeria as the last set of the seven sets of the 2019 Ebedi International Writers Residency Program. 

The Rwandan Writer and Visual Artist, Moise Izabiriza ,is a self-taught artist who uses his art  as a medium of expression and communication for positive social change. In 2015, Moise participated in the “Creating Art For Positive Social Change” workshop and art exhibition as part of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence campaign at the American Embassy in Kigali.  In 2016, Moise also attended the Kenya Art Fair in  Wasanii Art Gallery Nairobi and in 2019 created the set designs for the play titled ” SMALL CITIZENS” during  the International Theatre Festival at Camp Kigali , Rwanda. His works have been published by Daily Monitor, Easter African Magazine and New Time Magazine. He will use his stay at Ebedi to complete work on some new ideas and also facilitate art workshops in some selected secondary schools in Iseyin.

Abdullahi Lawan Kangala from Kano State, Nigeria writes in his native Hausa language. A prodigious author of many works in poetry, drama and short stories, Kangiwa is also a member of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) Kano Chapter. Apart from his writings, Abdullahi is also a Literary Activist. He is the creator of an online organisation, Kangala Global Awareness through which, he  mentors up and coming Hausa writers. He is also a regular contributor on Hausa Literature with the Kano based Arewa Radio, 93.1 FM. Abdullahi wishes to spend his time at the Residency to complete his forthcoming collection of Hausa poems. He will also mentor Iseyin students by teaching them Hausa language and culture.

The third writer, Daniel Mbolo who writes under the pen name, Sheathsword Nazaritus dropped out of school during thefinal year of his Law degree program at the Niger Delta University in his native Bayelsa State in order to concentrate on his writings. He has patterned his works after that of William Shakespeare, a style which embraces dramatic poetry style in telling stories. His latest work, ‘The Divine Tragedies’ is a composition of 25 plays adapted from the Holy Bible. The first volume of ‘Divine Tragedies’ which is a 1,017-page book was completed in 2018.  When Mbolo showed the book to the Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, the latter was very impressed and is currently engaging Mbolo in some literary projects. Apart from completing work on his second volume of ‘dramatic poetry’, Mbolo will also mentor Iseyin students in the twin arts of drama and poetry during his stay at the Ebedi residency.

The Ebedi International Writers Residency Program is a private intitiative for creative writers wishing to complete their works in a condusive environment at no cost. The program which is affliated with some international literary bodies including the Wole Soyinka Writers Residency in Abeokuta and the Belgium based African Moves Arts (AMA)  has hosted over 120 writers from ten African countries since it was established nine years ago.
